1 Dec 09, SINGAPORE: The Singapore Hockey Federation (SHF) Indoor Men's Open 2009 was concluded a fortnight ago at Delta Sports Complex on 14 November 09. The tournament drew eight teams from across all the divisions in the Singapore Hockey and Premier League. Singapore Cricket Club (SCC) topped the league standings and won the tournament piping Hollandse Club in the grand finals.

SCC won all of their league games barring a 1-0 reverse at the hands of Tornados Hockey Club. The latter were truly unlucky as they were edged out of the grand finals finishing 3^rd behind Hollandse Club on mere goal difference. Tornados finished on the same 16 points from their seven games but their goal difference of +9 was 2 shy of the Dutchmen who produced the upset of the tournament.

The men in Orange were scintillating in disposing of Singapore Recreation Club 3-1 in their final league game to secure their grand finals spot and dump the hockey giants out of the tournament. The Dutch had lost the inaugural tournament last season to Police Sports Club, who then boasted many national indoor players. They did not enter this year's tournament.

Although SCC won the tournament with a last minute goal, they were worthy champions and they will look to set the standard for the next indoor event.

The growth of the Indoor game is an encouraging sign and it is hoped that in time marked improvement in this sport can be seen here in Singapore.-story by SHF
