9 Dec 09, SINGAPORE: The Singapore Hockey Federation (SHF) and Singapore Khalsa Association (SKA) have jointly organised an Under-18 Boys and Girls Hockey Carnival. The 9-a-side tournament will be played this Saturday 12 December 09 at Delta Sports Complex from 9am to 7pm.

6 girls teams and 12 boys teams have entered the tournament which plays a crucial role in the youth hockey scene here in Singapore. Following this tournament the National Under-21 league will kick off in a matter of weeks and then the National Schools championships will begin.

Hence, the Under-18 competition plays the part of being the unofficial opening event of the youth season. The 9-a-side carnival format allows the developing members of this age group to have a real opportunity to taste competitive hockey without overwhelming them with an 11-a-side game.

However, for the more competitive participants, the Singapore National team selectors would be on hand to identify outstanding players who are not as yet included in the Youth Olympic Games training squad.

Both sets of organisers are excited about the event this weekend and look forward to seeing all hockey enthusiasts and parents of participants to come to Delta Sports complex and enjoy the fast paced hockey on show. -story by SHF
