| Singapore confirms top two ranking in Asian Games qualifiers
15 May 2010, Dhaka, BANGLADESH | Singapore confirmed a top two ranking following their crucial 1-0 win over hosts Bangladesh in the Asian Games Qualifiers. Farhan Kamsani scored the only goal after 16-minutes to set the Hockey Lions on their way.
Singapore had missed the chance to go top of the standings after they were held to a 1-1 draw by Oman. The Middle Eastern nation is amongst the most improved in world hockey and their demolition of Chinese-Taipei by 5-goals to one is testament to their development.
Sri Lanka beat Thailand 4-3 to move off the foot of the table and stay 6th. However, they have a big part to play yet in this competition when they meet Singapore in the today. Singapore needs a win to win the qualifiers and they must also hope Oman do not beat Bangladesh.
The results has meant that Singapore have qualified for the Asian Games, nonetheless, the Singapore National Olympic Council will still have to endorse and support the Singapore Men's hockey's participation in the games to be held in Guangzhou China in November this year.
